Description

Olifantsberg is based in Breedekloof, a cool-climate subregion of the Breede River Valley. The quartz and shale-rich soils here lend structure and finesse. Their 2022 Grenache Noir comes from just 2.5 hectares of dry-farmed bush vines, partially crushed and aged 9 months in neutral French oak. This is a graceful and fragrant expression, with notes of rose petal, pomegranate, garrigue, and silky tannins. A refined South African take on Grenache, reminiscent of the Southern Rhône but with a mountain-born lift and poise.

Review:The 2022 Grenache Noir comes mostly from 2.5 hectares planted with dry bush vines, done with partial crushing and aged for nine months in French oak. It has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet, with wilted rose petals infusing the redcurrant and pomegranate fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy entry, well-judged acidity and a lovely caressing texture. A touch of white pepper and garrigue emerges toward the powdery finish. This is an elegant take on the variety and comes recommended.
